Art in Development: A Nigerian Perspective is a landmark publication by Uche Okeke, widely regarded as the founding father of Nigerian modernism. Originally published in 1982, the book brings together essays, interviews, concept papers, manifestos, and reflections written between the late 1950s and early 1980s, documenting Okeke's artistic philosophy and his role in shaping post-independence Nigerian art.

Published jointly by the Documentation Centre, Asele Institute, Nimo and the African American Cultural Center, Minneapolis, the publication serves as both an intellectual autobiography and a foundational text for understanding the development of modern African art. Through his writings, Okeke explores the relationship between tradition and modernity, the responsibilities of artists in society, and the search for an authentic Nigerian artistic identity.

The book was later republished by Iwalewa Books in 2019
